Lonely Fisherman Battles the Pacific Ocean in Taiwan

It was with a little trepidation that we got on the little motorcycle we rented and began exploring the incredible ocean scenery along Highway 11. It has been threatening storms all day and we didn’t want to get caught out in the elements too far from home after dark. But, the scenery was so compelling we couldn’t resist pushing just and little further and just a little further still. Finally in late afternoon we arrived the the East CoastNational Scenic Area near the tiny harbor town of Shitiping.

The rain had held off, but the rocks were slippery with sea spray and algae as I carefully made my way out among the blow holes and and crevices next to the ocean’s edge. I thought I was alone when I spotted this lonely fisherman cautiously walking over the sandstone and coral uplifts thrusting out of the sea. I only had one lens with me at the time, but it turned out the be the perfect one for capturing the almost fairytale beauty of the place.

He doesn't intend to be modern day ascetic, just more mindful of his place in the world and to make decisions according to that new standard.
