Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and has a population of 1.2 million people. The city is known for its biking culture, museums, parks, and architecture. Copenhagen also has one of the highest standards in living in Europe and enjoys one of the best quality of life in the world. It is a safe city with los levels of pollution.

Average Cost of Living

Copenhagen has a high standard of living with an average income per person at USD $3,200 monthly. This means that the cost of living is relatively lower than other European cities such as London or Paris.

A single person's monthly costs are around $1200, excluding rent. The same for a family of four is estimated to be around $4200.

Rent Prices

The price of rent will depend greatly on proximity to the city center and neighbourhood.

The average rent for a one bedroom apartment in the city center is around USD $1700 per month, which includes utilities. This is much lower than the London average of USD $2500. The price can go to as low as USD $600 for a room in a shared apartment. If you are willing to relocate outside the city, the price for a one bedroom is around USD $1200, and if you have to pay utilities, you can expect to pay around USD $200

If you are on a budget and are looking for cheap accomodation, there are plenty of hostels and guesthouses around town where you can find rooms for USD $20-$40 per night, depending on the location and amenities offered by each establishment.

Grocery Prices

Some groceries in Copenhagen can be super cheap, depending on where you shop. While a meal out can set you back about $50, groceries can be half that price per week if you shop at discount stores like Aldi and Lidl instead of going to big supermarket chains like Bilka or Fotex.

Some things are expensive like toiletries or meat, but they have great sales available so people can stock up when things they need are discounted.

Here is a list of some of the basic household items so you have a better idea. Prices are in USD

Transportation Costs

Copenhagen is a flat city designed for bikes. Cycling is the favorite form of transport for many and a very efficient way to get around the city.

If you don't have a bike, you can use public transport, which is also good. The prices vary from zone to zone and times of the dat, but prices go from $1.75 to $3.50.

Entertainment Costs

As mentioned before, a dinner out for two people can cost about $50. If you want to save money while still eating out at restaurants then try going during lunchtime when many places offer special deals like two courses for under $30 or three courses for under $50, which usually include drinks like wine or beer if desired. Their 'lunch menus' can also be discounted, and they will usually serve smaller portions but the prices can go down quite significantly.
